Tyler Eveland
Software engineer & builder
Summary
AI engineer and founder with a track record of turning hard, undocumented problems into shipped software. I reverse-engineer proprietary systems, build full-stack products end to end, and repeatedly replace paid or broken software with custom, AI-assisted tools. Equally comfortable decoding a binary file format, standing up a CRM, migrating a legacy database, or shipping an open-source tool with users. I came to engineering by an unusual path — an English degree, a Master's in CS, and three years teaching kids to code — which is exactly why I'm good at making hard things clear to other people.
Experience
Founder & Engineer · Eveland Digital
2026 – present- Founded an AI-powered web + CRM agency for local home-service contractors; built the entire product stack in Next.js/TypeScript.
- Built a complete revenue system for the first client (3D Windows & Siding) — instant quoting, AI proposals, online booking, and a custom CRM with lead and follow-up automation — now in final review ahead of launch.
- Authored the business plan, pricing model, and a researched prospect pipeline targeting a $60K–$120K ARR path.
Software Engineer & Project Manager · Adams County, IL (Government)
2024 – Present- In two years, replaced thousands of dollars of paid or broken software with custom, AI-assisted tools across county departments.
- Built a digital sign-in / sign-out board for the Probation and Health departments, retiring a third-party contract that cost thousands per year.
- Built a jail bed auditing system for the Adams County Jail and a Daily Notes system for the Sheriff's Department.
- Created a network dashboard for the Network Administrator — built to his spec, integrating multiple APIs to watch every area he cares about — and separately diagnosed and resolved a county-wide network issue using PowerShell and AI.
- Built a RAG (retrieval-augmented generation) system over the county's internal data for semantic search and Q&A.
- Backed up the county's entire IBM records database to SQL ahead of an RMS/CAD transfer of service, when the county feared it would have no backup solution in time for production.
- Created a one-step installer for the county's end-of-support RMS that cut installation on officers' MDCs from multiple hours to minutes, and engineered a bypass that let Probation and Juvenile Detention's monitoring software run on Windows 11 after it was declared Windows 10-only.
- Wrote PowerShell and Power Automate solutions — Active Directory migrations, mass software deployment, workflow automation — eliminating hours of repetitive staff work.
- Currently automating the employee lifecycle: new-hire, termination, and promotion changes propagate through Active Directory, M365 groups, and downstream systems automatically.
- Replaced a commercial digital-signage subscription with a self-hosted Raspberry Pi courthouse signage system (courtboard), and own the county's FOIA video-evidence redaction pipeline.
AI Training Contractor & Independent Software Developer · Outlier & contract clients
2023 – 2025- Contracted with Outlier training and evaluating large language models — creating, reviewing, and ranking code and reasoning tasks used to improve frontier AI systems.
- Delivered independent software, automation, and tooling projects for clients on contract.
Coding Teacher · Griggsville-Perry High School
2022 – 2023- Taught coding and computer science to high-school students, building curriculum and projects from the ground up.
Coding Teacher · Liberty Jr. High & High School
2019 – 2021- Taught coding to junior-high and high-school students — three years across two districts of making hard technical concepts legible to true beginners, the same communication skill I bring to technical writing and cross-functional engineering work.
Owner & Technician · Independent IT business
2010 – 2020- Ran my own local IT business for a decade — five years full-time, ten counting freelance: repairs, networking, builds, and consulting for area homes and small businesses.
- Every part of the operation was mine: finding clients, scoping work, doing the work, and standing behind it.
